Description:
What the hospital pharmacist will do:
Prepares and dispenses parenteral and enteral and oral medications, monitors patient drug therapies, and provides drug information. Directs support personnel. Can work independently while following departmental policies and procedures.
- Reviews, prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician order or prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Can work independently but stays within departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
- Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
- Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to physicians, as needed.
- Provides drug information and counseling to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Provides work direction to pharmacy support personnel, verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
What the hospital pharmacist will need:
- Minimum Five-year Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Preferred Advanced training in at least one specialty clinical area.
- Minimum Current registered pharmacist license and controlled substance license issued by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification may be required (at discretion of manager).
- Preferred, One year of experience in a hospital pharmacy.
